Dear SDHS/CORD members,
In light of the divisive rhetoric of the recent presidential election in the U.S. and as we move towards collectively building the new Dance Studies Association, we want to affirm our fierce commitment to creating an inclusive international organization. We strongly disavow the racist, xenophobic, misogynist, and homophobic ideologies that are emerging in nationalist and fundamentalist movements around the globe. We believe in the possibility of critical and respectful discourse that is tolerant of many different points of view, and we will work hard to advocate for dance and support our members from different countries, circumstances, and backgrounds. The field of Dance Studies must remain mindful of the physical and material realities of moving bodies as we seek to create a just and free world for all. As we plan for the next conference at The Ohio State University next October, we encourage members to submit panels, papers, or presentations that engage these issues in a rigorous and thorough manner.
